  1. How do I match a FamilySearch record with one from NAMES IN STONE?

It's easy! In fact, it's so easy you don't have to type a single word. Just a few clicks will link your records to the FamilySearch tree. To get started, view the tutorial here.

  2. Will other visitors to NAMES IN STONE be able to view the FamilySearch records I match?

Yes, as long as the visitor is logged-in to a FamilySearch account.

  3. Do I have to log-in to both NAMES IN STONE and FamilySearch in order to view or match FamilySearch records?

Yes. NAMES IN STONE has always required you to first log-in before adding or updating information. For now, FamilySearch also requires you to log-in to their site before viewing their records. In the future, we hope to make it possible to see all records by logging in to NAMES IN STONE.

  4. What determines which FamilySearch records are displayed when I click the FIND MATCH button?

NAMES IN STONE will automatically search the FamilySearch database based on all data in the Cemetery Record. This includes the name, birth, death, and all relationships. There is no need for you to enter that information again to perform a search.

  5. Why would I want to match records with FamilySearch?

With the additional data from FamilySearch, you can identify your ancestors easier and more accurately. Each deceased person has their own page that allows you to view their records from the Cemetery, Community and FamilySearch side by side on a single page.

In the near future, when you search for deceased persons on NAMES IN STONE, FamilySearch records will display in the search results. Now that NAMES IN STONE has full access to FamilySearch records, you will be able to search both databases at the same time.

  6. Will the record I match with NAMES IN STONE update the FamilySearch tree?

Currently it does not. We hope to be able to provide this functionality soon.
